Taguchi L16 orthogonal array analysis on wear rate parameters for aluminum related hybrid composites
Abstract
This experimental work which studied about preparation of Al based MMC. AA 5083 has been selected as main alloy that is used in many application purpose. This kind of 5xxx series which possess less mechanical properties without additional particulates among many reinforcement particles available, Sic and flyash were taken for making of samples in less cost. The weight percentage values of silicon carbide and flyash are 2–8% and 5% respectively. Sixteen specimens are made as per standard dimension with assistance of stir cast approach. After that wear test were carried out on POD instrument under different process parameters such as sliding velocity (200 to 500 RPM), load (15 to 30 N), and weight % of Sic-Flyash powders. the taguchi or DOE technique that described influence of each optimization factors contributing on wear rate.it was noticed that first influencing factor sliding velocity risen tends to reduce wear rate and secondly SIC/flyash reduction that leads the reduction of wear rate further. The results of S-N ratio, means, graphs for different parameters were created with aid of Minitab-18 version statically software.
