Spin crossover in iron(III) complexes

David J. Harding, Phimphaka Harding, Wasinee Phonsri

Abstract

Spin crossover compounds are a diverse class of switchable materials with applications ranging from data storage devices to sensors. Iron(III) spin crossover complexes have received renewed attention over the last 10 years with an increasing number of abrupt and hysteretic spin crossover systems discovered. This review provides a detailed overview of this exciting and increasingly interdisciplinary area of research with a particular focus on the structures of these materials and how this impacts their magnetic performance.
