Abstract

This chapter aims to present insight into the potential and current use of nanotechnology in food packaging and its strengths and weaknesses. Nanoscale materials improve food safety and quality through antimicrobial activities, quality sensing, and meat shelf life. The real challenge is to know its effect on human health and consumer acceptance of nano-based packaging materials. This chapter focused on the market perspective, the current and future regulations, and the general prospects for the development of eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable products. In addressing these diverse challenges, nanotechnology holds a very significant promise in completely changing food packaging and making it safer, of greater quality, and more sustainable for consumers.
